Ita-San round-grain husked rice 500 g is a short-grain rice with round grains which, when cooked, becomes slightly sticky and soft — ideal above all for making sushi, nigiri, onigiri or other Asian dishes, but it’s also perfect as a side dish with meat or vegetables, or in rice salads.

🍽️ Product description

  • Type: round-grain white rice (husked)

  • Weight: 500 g

  • Ingredients: 100 % rice

  • Characteristics: once cooked, it has a clumpy and slightly sticky texture, which is particularly desirable for sushi and other Asian recipes.

🍚 Taste and texture

  • Flavour: neutral and delicate — perfect as a base for seasoning with vinegar, sugar or salt when making sushi, or as an accompaniment to various sauces.

  • Texture: soft, clinging and pliant, with a slightly sticky surface after cooking, which helps the rolls or dumplings hold their shape.

🧑‍🍳 Uses and tips

✔️ Sushi and Japanese dishes: the perfect choice for makizushi, nigiri or onigiri – after cooking, add rice vinegar, sugar and salt for an authentic flavour.
✔️ Side dish: suitable as a basic side dish for meat, fish or vegetables.
✔️ Salads and bowl dishes: you can also use it in poke bowls or Asian salads.
✔️ Shaping: thanks to its stickiness, it shapes well into balls and rolls.

🥢 Preparation – basic method

  1. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. The ratio of water to rice is usually 2:1 (e.g. 2 pots of water to 1 pot of rice).

  3. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and cook, covered, for approx. 10–15 min.

  4. Once cooked, leave to stand for 10 minutes so that the rice ‘dries out’ properly and fully absorbs the liquid.

🧊 Storage

Store in a dry, cool place away from direct light to ensure the rice retains its quality and does not become damp. It will keep for a long time in a sealed container.

💡 Tip: If you’re making sushi, season the rice with rice vinegar, a little sugar and salt only after it has been cooked. This will give it the traditional sweet-and-sour flavour typical of sushi.
