The avocado is classified as a fruit. When ripe, it is soft, oval in shape, resembling an egg, and has a bumpy skin that is dark green (or even black) in colour. An unripe avocado is bright green in colour and very hard to the touch. The flesh is greenish-yellow and, when ripe, spreads easily. Avocados have a delicious creamy texture and a mild flavour.
Serving tip: Cut the avocado in half, remove the stone and add a few drops of lemon juice (otherwise it will turn grey and become bitter). Season with salt and pepper – nothing else is needed – and then simply enjoy its delicious, delicate flavour.
