It is a fruit vegetable belonging to the gourd family. This courgette is green in colour, although courgettes can also be yellow-green or yellow. Its shape resembles that of a plump cucumber. A ripe courgette has a smooth, glossy and firm surface. The flesh is light green or yellow depending on the variety, very soft and watery, with plenty of edible seeds.
Courgettes are usually cooked, for example by frying, roasting or grilling. They absorb other flavours well, so you can season them to your own taste; they go particularly well with garlic, for example.
